My Approach to Period Home Interior Design

Period Properties are defined by their architectural features, I always undertake proper research on the time your home was built, the Victorian era was a vast period and it’s important that the traditional features whether restoring or reinstating are accurate to the point in time when your home was built.

Whether your home has been completely stripped or they have aged and require a bit of TLC it's important that we explore our options. If you are undertaking a large renovation then I will always be taking care in preserving the traditional features as we change layouts.

Bringing period homes up to date with modern living can be hard work not to mention compartmentalised floor plans and layouts that just don’t make any sense, we work hard with our Clients to truly understand how they want to live in the space and craft a home that endures for years to come.

About

When I purchased my first home—a charming Victorian terrace in Birmingham—and started its renovation I realised my passion for transforming spaces could be crafted into a career centered around aiding others in designing and redefining their homes.

Since then, I haven't looked back!

I eat, sleep and breathe interior design, infusing every project with a sense of excitement, as my journey has taught me the intricate needs and nuances of period homes.

My mission is to convey to everyone the immense value and delight of having an Interior Designer by your side during your renovation journey.

You won’t be filled with renovation regret, stood around thinking you could have done things differently, as my interior design studios ethos is characterised by meticulousness, thoughtfulness, and a purposeful approach that places your home and family at the forefront of the creative process.

‘Though I've always had a passion for interior design, the prospect of navigating the vast choices available left me feeling overwhelmed and apprehensive about making costly mistakes. Engaging an interior designer was a new experience for me, but it turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made. What drew me to Jessica was her commitment to creating a design that felt uniquely mine, rather than imposing a signature look. I couldn't be more delighted with the outcome – Jessica's expertise resulted in a beautifully designed yet practical space that stayed within budget. I wholeheartedly recommend Jessica; her work exceeded our expectations.’

Services

Restoring or Reinstating Traditional Features

Traditional features are what define a period home. It is so important to protect these when making changes or to consider reinstating them where possible.

Bespoke Joinery Design

Nothing makes a home more unique than a bespoke piece of custom joinery, designed to your exact needs and specifications for how you live in your home. Technical drawings can provided for you to pass onto your carpenter/joiner.

Listed Building and Planning Applications

Listed building applications can be difficult to get right and they take a lot of time. I can support you through this process and make the process a lot easier for you.

2D and 3D Visuals

3D visuals are a great way to understand the space and suggestions that are being made. There are a few different ways this can be presented, take a look at Project Southall on my Portfolio for a 3D fly through.

Space Planning, Lighting and Electrical Plans

Have you ever done a renovation and assumed that the Architect would tell you where your lights need to be. To have a great lighting plan you need to understand the tasks of each of the space and how this can enhance your space.

Concept Design

Concept design serves as almost a road map to help you understand how you want your home to feel and what colours, fabrics, textures will help you get there.
